Comfortable MRI for Claustrophobic Patients
Esaote O-Scanner Extremity MRI
If you are claustrophobic and need an MRI of the wrist, hand, fingers, elbow, foot, ankle, or knee, REDI’s extremity MRI O-Scanner may be the right option for you.
The Esaote O-Scanner is designed for comfort. You remain fully outside the magnet in a completely open room. You can relax in a reclined position, dim the lights, and many patients simply take a comfortable nap during the 20-minute scan.
What is the Esaote O-Scanner?
The Esaote O-Scanner is a dedicated extremity MRI system with an open design. Unlike traditional MRI machines, your body stays entirely outside the magnet while only the area being examined is scanned.
Why patients find the O-Scanner more comfortable.
Many patients prefer the O-Scanner because it:
- Has an open, non-enclosed design
- Reduces or eliminates feelings of claustrophobia.
- Allows you to relax in a comfortable reclining position.
- Let’s you extend your arm to the side slightly rather than holding a “superman” position.
- Makes it easy to relax or nap during the exam.
If you’ve postponed imaging due to anxiety, discomfort, or claustrophobia, the O-Scanner will make completing your MRI with ease.
What exams can be performed with the O-Scanner?
The Esaote MRI O-Scanner is commonly used to image:
- Knees
- Ankles
- Feet
- Wrists
- Hands
- Fingers
- Elbows
These exams help evaluate ligament injuries, tendon damage, cartilage abnormalities, arthritis, stress injuries, and other joint-related conditions.
Does the O-Scanner provide high-quality images?
Yes. The O-Scanner is optimized specifically for extremity imaging and delivers detailed, diagnostic-quality images. Our radiologists carefully interpret each study and promptly send a report to your referring provider.
Who benefits most from the O-Scanner?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Are claustrophobic or anxious about traditional MRI scanners.
- Need imaging of an upper or lower extremity joint (excluding the shoulder).
- Have difficulty holding the “superman” position for upper extremity MRI.
- Prefer a more open, relaxed imaging experience.
