Varithena Q&A

What is Varithena?

Varithena is an injectable medication used to treat varicose veins that affect the great saphenous vein (GSV) system.

This unique treatment causes varicose veins to swell and collapse, minimizing their physical appearance. Additionally, Varithena eases uncomfortable symptoms associated with varicose veins, like itching, burning, and cramping.

Am I a good candidate for Varithena?

If you have varicose veins that cause uncomfortable symptoms like itching, burning, or heaviness and conservative methods of care like regular exercise, wearing compression garments, and eating a healthy diet, don’t ease these symptoms you may benefit from Varithena treatment.

The treatment is quick, pain-free, and presents no adverse side-effects, making it ideal for adult patients of all ages.

How does Varithena treatment work?

Varithena is a quick outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home on the same day as your appointment. Prior to administering your injections, your REDI Diagnostics Corp provider cleans your legs with an antiseptic solution and applies a topical numbing ointment.

Once the numbing ointment sets in, your provider administers one or two injections. Varithena enters your bloodstream and foams up, treating the desired section of a vein. Afterward, the diseased vein collapses, and your lymphatic system flushes the remaining medication from your body.

Your blood reroutes to healthier veins, which improves your circulation and minimizes uncomfortable side effects. What’s more, Varithena treatment usually takes less than an hour to complete.

What is recovery like following Varithena treatment?

Following Varithena treatment, you can return to work and other routine activities right away. However, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise for at least a week.

To ensure the best possible outcome, keep your post-treatment bandages dry and wear them for at least 48 hours. You should also wear compression stockings every day for one or two weeks. REDI Diagnostics Corp recommends you walk for at least 10 minutes a day. That improves circulation and assists your body’s recovery process.

How many Varithena treatments do I need?

The number of Varithena treatments you need depends on the location, size, and severity of your varicose veins. Many patients benefit from just one session. Others require a series of treatment sessions spaced several weeks apart.
