What are Varicose veins?

Varicose veins are swollen, blue, or purple veins that usually develop on your lower legs. While unsightly, they’re also a sign of vascular health issues. 

The veins in your legs have valves that help push your blood back up to your heart. Varicose veins form when those valves are damaged or weak, which makes your blood flow less efficiently or even leak backward. Your blood can pool in the vein, and over time the vein swells and bulges, forming a varicose vein on your leg.
